Singing ABC's

Amelia loves music almost as much as Amanda does! They both love to sing, and play lots of different instruments around here. There is never a quiet moment but I love it. A few days ago, Amanda was teaching me to play the drums and repeat various patterns. She learned this in music class. She is thrilled to have music two times a week at her kindergarten. Amanda and Elmo have been a great help in teaching Amelia to sing the ABC's.

George Clooney or Brad Pitt?

At lunch today, I made a comment that George Clooney was on the cover of the Parade magazine to my hubby. (He knew before we were even married that I have a little crush on George because I always want to see any movie he is in!)

I showed Amanda the cover and said, "This is the guy I once thought was cute!"

Amanda replied, "Oh, did you date him?" Of course we laughed and daddy said, "No, she was already dating Brad Pitt at the time!"

Amanda said, "Did you really date Brad Pitt? I think he is on a show that I am not allowed to watch."

I explained to her that I didn't date Brad Pitt or George Clooney and she wondered why? Ummmm.......I guess they weren't on Match.Com at the time?

A week of 1st times for Amelia!

This week has been a busy week as we are officially into our full Fall schedule. On Sunday, Amelia was promoted to a new Sunday School class for 2's, (we were out of town the week they promoted) so it was her first time in a new class. When I asked her how it went....She told me "I cry and cry!"
But the teacher did say she did have some periods when she didn't cry before she would start up again, so hopefully since we are in town now for a while.....the consistency of being there will help her stop crying.
Thankfully, her teacher had a son who did the same thing so she understands and I don't feel so judged as a mom like I have spoiled her or held her too much.(I don't believe you can ever love or hold a baby too much!) You can spoil children with material things and lack of discipline, but never by loving them. They grow up so fast and change daily. I think Amelia is just a different child than Amanda was at this age. She wants to be with her mom and who can blame her? This won't last forever and one day she will tell me "you can leave now" like Amanda does. Then I will probably cry!

After an afternoon nap, she attended another little program just for kids her age through Awana called "Puggles" I think she really liked it but it is a little long, it runs for two full hours and she was exhausted when she got in the car and ended up falling asleep in the car, then waking up and being grouchy. I stayed with her so crying wasn't a problem! She colored, sang songs and attempted to do the motions, met the "Bob-a-Lou-ee's", listened to a story, played with friends, ate a snack, and loved going down a little slide. This worked out well since hubby is working in another program with Amanda called Sparks at the same time so we can go as a family. Amanda had a wonderful time and we really loved what all Amanda learned last year in the program so we are looking forward to a fun year of learning. We love what kids learn through the Awana program.

On Tuesday, Amelia attended her new music and movement class with ten new friends! She dove right in and loved it. The nice thing about this class is we have extra time from dropping off Amanda at school so we are actually early for class which I must say is nice. I don't feel stressed having the extra time....yes, I think I am going to be "an always on time girl" by the end of the year! My girlfriend is one of these and she has four kids and she never seems stressed so......hopefully, I will get there too! One class at a time!

On Wednesday, Amelia had to experience yet another FIRST when I dropped her off in the nursery so I could start a bible study. I had to leave her crying.....which broke my heart but a grandma type loved on her and told me she stopped within minutes. She did cry again once other children got picked up early but stopped and when I got there she was standing by the door just waiting for me! She told the workers, "my mommy is here, my mommy is here!" The workers told me that she told them, "Mommy always come back, mommy always comes back, and she is bringing coffee!"
Considering, I don't even drink coffee, I am not sure where she got that? My older daughter told me just the other day that I need to start drinking coffee instead of diet coke. Ummm.........if it tasted better I would!
When we got in the car to go pick up Amanda she kept saying, "Mommy always comes back, Mommy always comes back!"

So Amelia had four new social/learning environments to experience this week and I think she did a fantastic job! I am looking forward to her making some new little friends like Amanda did when she was young! Plus, I am really excited about all of the new women God has placed in my path and look forward to a great semester of learning and fun!

Breakfast w/ our favorite friends

Since we knew staying here over the tenth anniversary of 9-11 would bring back all of those horrific images that we didn't want our girls to see on TV.......and I knew I would spend all day in front of the TV watching the ceremonies.......we decided to take some time off and go to our favorite street for a few days to get away.
We did pray for all of the 9-11 victims and kept them in our thoughts all weekend. The park had everyone stand towards the flag for the national anthem on both Saturday and Sunday morning. We thought that was a nice remembrance and while I did share a little about that day with Amanda, but I didn't tell her about the planes because that poor girl still has nightmares so we are careful not to put anything into her mind that might cause her to have more.

The children's minister at our church gave us a very well written out letter of some ways to talk to our kids, word usage to use etc. about 9-11. I found it very helpful and we chose not to share too much because we don't want Amanda to be scared but we did want her to know why we were sad etc. That said or written, we did notice a ton of extra security at the park and it was extremely sparse which meant no lines for us!

I really do try to keep my kids out of the way when someone is taking a picture with their kids and I sure wish others would do the same! This is definitely one of my pet-peeves. ha ha

We started our day having breakfast with Cookie Monster and his friends: Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, and Abby Cadabby. There were only 12 other families there besides ours since there was another breakfast going on with Elmo down Sesame Street. He's more popular than Cookie Monster.
We had breakfast with him in June and while it was fun, the breakfast with Cookie and friends gave the girls alot more one on one attention with each character since there were fewer families.

Amelia didn't want to have her picture taken without me with any of the characters which made me in ALL of them. How LOVELY!
The girls really enjoyed talking to Abby Cadabby!
There's that girl that doesn't belong to me again in my picture! Some parents just think their kids are sooooo cute they belong in every body's pictures? I find it quite rude but she is adorable and she can't help it if her parents aren't polite!

I really like how Sesame keeps adding new characters to keep our interests. Abby is a cutie if you can get past her whiny voice.

Ernie is my all time favorite. Big Bird is Amanda's favorite, Cookie and Elmo are tied as favorites for Amelia, and daddy really likes Oscar and Grover. Interesting considering Oscar is a Grouch and Grover is known for being LOVABLE.

Amanda had fun getting autographs from the characters.
We had a fun time talking to Bert about where he hid Ernie's rubber duckie.

Big Bird kept trying to steal Amelia's food and the girls just thought it was absolutely hysterical.

You can tell from her face that he didn't get her chocolate doughnut.

I love how Amanda protects, teaches, mothers, and loves her little sis!

Amanda got a little protective of her sister's food because she thought Big Bird really was going to eat it.

Amelia wasn't sure what to do?

What a fun breakfast with our favorite friends! I am so thankful Amelia and Amanda still like this place. Although, I think Amanda is more into the roller coaster and water park than the characters but she is still cool about it for her little sis! Thanks Amanda, you are a sweet big sis!

The beginning of something wonderful!

The first day of kindergarten brought both smiles and some nervousness for Amanda but the beginning of going to school every day and expanding her love of learning!
My favorite kindergartner and picture!

Amanda was excited to go back to her old school because it was familiar and we all adore that place!
Walking to the classroom.......

Hanging her tote on the hook.....yes, I was clicking away but it kept the tears from flowing......

This is the "OK, I have had enough pictures!" I think she gets this look from her dad when it comes to too many pictures but I always tell them someday they will look back and appreciate all the pictures, or maybe not but I will appreciate them when I am 80 and reminiscing about my life to all my friends in the nursing home!

Amelia is the official gate keeper and insists on closing it every morning and afternoon and if she is not given this glorious opportunity......you will see that sweet two year old tantrum! This is also where I made it to before the tears started flowing and continued to do so all the way down the road! My hubby told me he can't wait to see what I am like when we drop her off at college but since I plan to be tucked away in her suitcase we won't need any tissues but until then, we most likely will need to buy stock in Kleenex!

Amelia really missed Amanda the first few days....when we picked her up she said, "Manda I miss you!" and then she patted Amanda on the top of her head!

How we went from this day in the hospital...........
to this first day of preschool last year.........
to this grown up kindergartner is really nothing short of a blessing and a miracle!!!!!!!
Thank you God for kindergartner's, good schools, and my precious girls! (and hubby too!)
Oh and this pic is for you hubby. It is the clock in the car indicating what time we left for school.......

This is our arrival time! School starts at 9 so I think that is the best I can do unless I spend the night and believe me with my being on time record, it is tempting!

Annoucing our new addition to our family!

Now that our sweet little pea in the pod has turned 2 she is no longer a baby so..............we decided we might need a new addition to our family.......

While I really love this age even though I say that every age, I really love the 2 and 3 year old stage sooo much. The way their little minds continue to expand and language flows at such a rapid pace which I love, but it is hard to remember the baby stage and sometimes it can make me miss having a baby since she is such a big girl. So we thought long and hard and decided it was time for a new addition to are family!

We heard the door bell ring and this is what we saw.......

Welcome Mickey!

Amelia's Uncle RRRRR brought the new addition as a birthday present for Amelia. She loved him and when my brother was ready to leave we were at the door talking and she ran into the family room and dragged Mickey to the door thinking her Uncle RRR had left his toy! She didn't realize he was hers to keep! From that moment on she has been letting everyone know that "This is MY MICKEY!" She is doing a great job sharing him with her sis!

Since he arrived we decided that he is a great addition to our family but unfortunately  we still can't get a decent family picture......at least hubby always looks good!
